Monthly Discussion on Media, Democracy, and Peace
The responsibility of the media in protecting and promoting human rights, democracy, coexistence, tolerance and peace is enormous. Yet, fulfilling this responsibility has never been easy for the media, journalists and practitioners. Although media scholars have conducted various studies on this media dysfunction and proposed new theories, approaches and methods, such as peace journalism, human rights journalism and pragmatic objectivity, they have not reached most working journalists and media practitioners. To make this new knowledge and skills available to working journalists and journalism students, the Centre for Media, Human Rights and Peacebuilding, UK, the University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, The Gate Institute, UK and Sri Lanka Tamil Media Alliance have jointly arranged a series of monthly discussions virtually by inviting media scholars, experts and researchers.
The discussion will occur on the third Friday every month between 1 pm and 2.30 pm UK time. Full details about this seminar will be announced soon.
