Gate Institute Explores Cross-Border Innovation Partnerships During Visit to PSG Tech, Coimbatore
A delegation from The Gate Institute conducted a productive visit to PSG College of Technology (PSG Tech) in Coimbatore on 8 and 10 October 2025. The visit, facilitated by Ms. Ramya from the Indian Consulate in Jaffna, aimed to strengthen knowledge exchange and explore collaborative opportunities aligned with the Sri Lanka Ecosystem Compact Matrix.
On the first day, the delegation met Dr. Suresh, Director of the PSG Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (STEP), and Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Head of the Department of Apparel and Fashion Design. Discussions centred on PSG Tech’s robust innovation and incubation ecosystem, entrepreneurship development programmes, and potential areas for collaboration. Proposed joint initiatives included mentorship opportunities, capacity-building workshops, and exchange programmes to support early-stage innovators in Sri Lanka.
The second day featured a detailed tour of the PSG Centre for Excellence for Industrial and Home Textiles, where the delegation observed cutting-edge advancements in technical textiles, sustainable fashion, and product innovation. Highlights included biodegradable seedling pots, non-woven masks, and highly absorbent baby sheets—showcasing PSG’s commitment to eco-friendly and socially impactful solutions.
Engagements with local startups further emphasized the growing potential for cross-border entrepreneurial collaboration. PSG Tech expressed strong support for The Gate Institute’s initiatives in Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern Provinces, particularly in entrepreneurship training, innovation exchange, and capacity-building within the fields of Apparel and Fashion Design.
The visit marked a significant step toward building a vibrant regional innovation ecosystem, fostering long-term partnerships that benefit emerging entrepreneurs on both sides.
