Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrated in Vavuniya  

On the occasion of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024, the University Business Linkage (UBL) Cell, the University of Vavuniya, The GATE Institute, UK/Sri Lanka, and Tamil Ventures, LP, USA  jointly organised special events and a workshop for entrepreneurs on 23 November 2024 at the University of Vavuniya.

Over 200 entrepreneurs from the North and East participated enthusiastically in this event.

Counsel General, Consulate General of India, Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Mr. Shri Sai Murali, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Shri Sai Murali expressed India’s support for such events, emphasising the potential for economic growth through collaborative efforts.

Mathivathany, Director, University Business Linkage Unit, University of Vavuniya,  Dr K.Koperunthevi, Director, International Division, University of Vavuniya, Ms. Mathangie Selvarajah, Director, The Gate Institute, Sri Lanka,  Mr.P.Sasitharan (Program Coordinator, ESBM), Career Guidance Unit, University of Vavuniya,  Dr Senthan Selvarajah, CEO  and Co-Founder of The Gate Institute,  Mr Jayaraj Kulasekaram, Co-Founder and Board Member of The Gate Institute, Mr Sathasivam Mangaleswaran, Co-Founder and Board Member of The Gate Institute, Mr Parthipan Paramsothy, Co-Founder and Managing Partners, Tamil Venture LP, USA, and Mr Thillai Kumaran, Co-Founders and Managing Partners, Tamil Venture LP, USA also spoke at the event.

At this event, entrepreneurs were briefed on how to use the digital platform GIVE, developed by The Gate Institute, to provide access to mentoring and investment opportunities. A workshop titled ‘Accelerate Your Startup’ was also conducted for the entrepreneurs. More than 100 entrepreneurs registered with GIVE that day.

The findings of a research study, ‘Bridging the Digital Divide: A Comprehensive Assessment of Foundational Digital Literacy in the Vanni Region of Sri Lanka’  jointly conducted by the University of Vavuniya and The Gate Institute, were also shared.
