“She Creates” Initiative Empowers Women Entrepreneurs Across Sri Lanka
Joseph’s Foundation in Kandy, led by Ms Roshani Joseph, together with The Gate Institute’s Gate for Innovation Venture and Entrepreneurship (GIVE) project, launched the She Creates initiative on 24 August 2024. This transformative programme is dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs across Sri Lanka by strengthening their business skills and expanding their market reach.
The initiative focuses on connecting women’s craft-based products to broader commercial opportunities while equipping participants with essential business planning, branding, and financial literacy skills. It also encourages the establishment of home-based production centres and peer-learning networks—helping women balance family responsibilities with sustainable income generation.

A diverse range of handicrafts, textiles, jewellery, cutlery, and biodegradable handmade products were showcased at the launch, reflecting the creativity, craftsmanship, and environmentally conscious practices of the participating women.
Working in alignment with The Gate Institute’s GIVE Project—which supports small-scale entrepreneurs nationwide through mentorship and investment—She Creates strengthens a collaborative ecosystem for women-led enterprises. Together, these organisations are expanding opportunities for women to grow as innovators, creators, and business leaders.
The event underscored the region’s strong entrepreneurial potential, celebrating existing achievements and inspiring emerging women entrepreneurs to pursue their ventures with confidence and ambition.
